The Design Museum Rebrand

Overview

The Design Museum of London houses some of the most impressive exhibitions of modern design in a very cohesive curation framed by the fundamentals of design theory.

Challenge

To create a new identity for an existing museum to be utilized on a poster advertising 3 upcoming exhibitions.

Solution

The Design Museum of London houses some of the most impressive exhibitions of modern design in a very cohesive curation framed by the fundamentals of design theory. My concept for rebranding began by dissecting the main letterforms of the brand and understanding their form as a contemporary logo form. Variations in stylization and orientation created a wide variety of components that built up a visual language unique to the institution. By abstracting the letterform, patterns and elaborate shapes can be created to make unique compositions to meet the different needs of a visual identity.

Posters featuring the upcoming exhibitions featuring Enzo Marie, Barbie, and Tim Burton flourished in explorations with the conceptual additions of the “DM” shapes. High contrast and contemporary typography fit the poster into the aesthetics of the museum itself. The final poster utilizes dramatic rules to create intense structure guiding the viewer's attention.
